High School Star Jeremy Tyler to sign with Maccabi Haifa

While most American 17-year-olds will be fretting over calculus tests and prom dates, Jeremy Tyler will be swapping sweat with very, very large European men.  It is now clear that a majority of those large men will be Israeli, as it has been reported that Maccabi Haifa has decided to take the plunge and ink the youngster out of San Diego, California.

In a lengthy interview here on the Maccabi Haifa website, he sounds unfazed by the news that Haifa will not be participating in any major European leagues this year, and he’s excited to play with fellow Californian Davon Jefferson.  It’s unclear how much money the deal is worth at this point (unclear to us, at least), but Israel will surely be a better test for young Tyler than his would-be high school challengers, who held the 6′11″ big man to a measly 28.7 points as a junior.  As highlights would indicate, the kid has no problem dunking the basketball, but if he wants to lock up that number one spot in the 2011 NBA Draft, he’ll need to supplement the athleticism with some fundamentals.  If nothing else, it should be fun to watch.
