Jeremy Pargo might have gotten multi-year guarantee from NBA team

One source told us that 2011 All-Euroleaguer Jeremy Pargo exercised his opt-out with Maccabi because an NBA team guaranteed him a multi-year deal. Pargo’s decision to leave Maccabi came as a shock to many, especially with the lockout looming and with Pargo coming off such a successful season with Tel Aviv. This might explain why. For which team Pargo will play and for exactly how long, the source would not say, only volunteering that it will  be clear once the lockout comes to a close.

Maccabi tried to swap Theo Papaloukas straight up for Bamberg’s Brian Roberts

With Pargo in the USA and Perkins out with an injury until at least December, head coach David Blatt felt as though Maccabi needed more punch on the perimeter than Jordan Farmar, Papaloukas, Jon Scheyer, Yogev Ohayon and Devin Smith could offer. According to a source, Tel Aviv scrambled to make a deal right before the Euroleague season got underway and they dangled Papaloukas as bait. One offer that was on the table was Theo Papaloukas for Bamberg’s Brian Roberts, but Bamberg turned them down based on several factors: age, defensive reliability and Roberts’ history of clutch shots were among them. This story ends with Maccabi signing Keith Langford last week, and with Roberts and Papaloukas still with the clubs that signed (or re-signed, in Roberts’ case) them this offseason.

Should Bamberg have traded Brian Roberts for Theo Papaloukas?

Top prospect Nemanja Nedovic was looking to leave Red Star

ELA spoke to a Euroleague scout this week who called 20-year-old Nemanja Nedovic “the best guard in the Adriatic League.” He also told us that Nedovic’s camp had been looking at other options to find the Serbian point guard some more playing time after Nemanja played 16 minutes then only three in Crvena Zvezda’s first two games. It’s not clear whether Nedovic is still looking for an out, however, as he’s seen 18, 26 and 25 minutes in his last three games, respectively. DraftExpress has Nedovic going 30th overall in his 2012 NBA Mock Draft.

Atlanta Hawks draftee Keith Benson leaves Dinamo Sassari

Sportando Basket: “Keith Benson leaves Dinamo Sassari. Steven Hunter (400 games in NBA with last year off) signs with the team.” The Oakland University big man and 48th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, Benson was only putting up 5.5 ppg and 5.8 rpg, but Hunter hasn’t played in a year.
