Folks in Turkey were probably starting to wonder if this Deron Michael Williams guy was for real. He hadn’t done much to back up the hullabaloo, going 6-for-28 in two Eurocup qualifying games early on. They split that two-game series with Dexia Mons but lost out on their Eurocup spot thanks to point differential.
No Euroleague. No Eurocup. Time to focus on the TBL.
First game there? No dice. Only 11 points on 2-10 shooting and just five assists. Three games deep, Deron looked as washed up and out of sync as Allen Iverson had when he wore Besiktas’ black and white last year.
Apparently a trip to Izmir was just what D-Will needed. In today’s game against Pinar Karsikaya, Deron dropped a stat line a lot closer to his 2011 averages: 24 points (9-14 from the field), 10 assists and four boards in 37 minutes.
Oh, and Besiktas won . Everybody happy.
