A Rubio unveiling at the Mineapolis-St. Paul airport quickly turned into a showcase of his ambidexterity as David Kahn again proved the depth of his genius.
How did we not know this coming into the draft? It could’ve easily launched him into the top three picks and maybe—just maybe—saved Memphis the frustrating embarrassment of handing Hasheem Thabeet a jersey with his name on it. Instead, the Grizzlies traded the talentless Tanzanian for Shane Battier, who helped Memphis dismantle the Spurs and reach the Western Conference Semifinals this season. Fairy tale material, really.
Meanwhile in Minny, the Wolves compiled 32 wins over two seasons as Rubio’s stats stagnated and then declined. Joke’s on you, Memphis.
But I take my Tuesday morning coffee with a twist. Southpaw penmanship? Yes, please.
Check out his arrival (or buy a special Rubio season ticket deal) and then a one-on-one with Jonah Ballow, in which Rubio says of his first game on NBA hardwood, “I can’t believe it, I can’t believe it. I can’t wait for that day to come.”
Neither can ELA, Rick.
