When I arrived in Istanbul last week, I was introduced to Chris Mitchell of the BBC. On one of the first days of competition, he brought me on for a couple of minutes to help break down Team USA’s B-Team status as well as look ahead to the match-up between Greece and Turkey. After stumbling through those two soundbites, I was delighted to hear that the BBC just couldn’t get enough of my stammeringly ineffective analysis and signed me up to be the summariser—or as well call it in the states, the color commentator—for yesterday’s one-point thriller between Croatia and Serbia. I somehow managed to steer clear of total embarrassment and here I am getting ready to call tonight’s match between Goran Dragic’s Slovenia and Patty Mills’ Australia.
